As my college journey comes to a close, Multimedia Journalism was a class to remember. It allowed me to be creative with elements in my everyday life. Most notably, I enjoyed learning about the 5-shot method in class, making a home video about creating a quick dish enjoyed by my family and I, and then watching out for that method being used during news broadcasts was both fun and fascinating. Experimenting with the angles while an action is being done makes sense when compiling the footage together and it is pleasing to the eye.

I felt most successful this term when doing the

Multiple Image Story on Automotive Detailing as that is currently a field I am

in. The challenge of getting various images that capture various people, a

variety of setting/scenery, but also show a tone of hard work and success was a

unique style of storytelling that I enjoyed producing.

My perception of podcasts changed this semester as

ironically a good friend of mine who specializes in European car art and custom

builds got the opportunity to do an episode of an Automotive podcast right

after the Audio Lab had wrapped up. Things I paid attention to were shifts in

tone and pace as she spoke, shift in tone when delivering industry “Hot Takes”,

and I can say I enjoyed listening to it but also found it cool to have the

background knowledge from this class on how they are produced. Even though I

was skeptical, I am glad that I was exposed to a new (to me) form of media that

I can consume.

Working on the Multimedia package with Cal Terry

was a very cool experience as we have similar views on Inequity in

Transportation. While we focused on different parts of that term, he researched

urban transportation more while I focused on private transportation and the

education behind it. It is neat how we got different mediums of media to tell

other people’s stories behind it. A lot of lightbulb moments were had of who I

could retrieve information from and what mediums would suit their personality

best.

In some instances, yes, this class had its

challenges of being deadline heavy and there's a lot of time that needs to be

spent dedicated to this class. However, as the final week is approaching, I

have found a lot of things that have made sense as far as what this course has

prepared us for. So, when doing the Multimedia Package and putting it all

together, referring to old feedback from the Labs have been my key to success

in feeling confident with the final results.
